Access Protection Markings
The RRA reported in the summer Recorder (2026) magazine, the costs for residents who wanted to have the white Access Protection Markings (APM) or H bars across driveways to try and deter motorists from parking on, or across a dropped kerb to a property. This is a particular problem in the 4 main streets near to Riddlesdown rail station, streets near to the Collegiate and the streets near to the Mitchley Ave shops.
We have now got the updated costs for 2026 from Croydon Council and these are;
Application Fee: £60.01 (if no APM has been laid before)
APM under 7m: £142.90
APM over 7m: £191.50
And yes, these costs have risen considerably above the rate of inflation from last year, and we have commented about this with the Council.
If residents in our area are having issues with thoughtless motorists parking across dropped kerbs to driveways/garages, then these white APM lines may help. The APM’s are usually marked about 900 mm to 1m beyond the start of the angled part of the kerb.
To report a motorist in Croydon who is partially parked across a dropped kerb for a Parking Charge Notice (PCN) to be issued, a resident needs to contact the Croydon Parking Division, either via the Love Clean Streets app, or by calling 020 8726 6000 option 3.
To have a vehicle removed that is completely blocking a driveway, with a vehicle on the driveway, or in a garage, then call the Police on 101. To receive a PCN, or be removed, a vehicle must have a wheel level with the angled part of the dropped kerb, or beyond the angled part of the dropped kerb.
