As many residents maybe aware, there is restricted access on Riddlesdown Open Space in Ragged Grove (the woodland behind the houses in Holmwood Ave). The woodland(s) in question has been partly fenced off by Whitgift Foundation, who own the land, due to ash die back and other unsafe trees – in particular oak trees with large limbs falling. They have signposted this woodland as closed.
However, unknown persons are breaking down the fencing (or walking around it) and walking through this woodland. We have been asked by Croydon Council (who we are in contact with) to point out to the public that entry into this woodland is temporarily suspended. The Council is in contact with the Whitfgift Foundation, and they say the users of this woodland should stop walking through this area of land for their own safety.
There is another area of woodland just to the south of Ragged Grove which is also fenced off. The public seem to be staying out of this area.
We are told that Whitgift hope to have the woodland re-opened as soon as possible and when safe to do so.
For the time being, please enter Ragged Grove via Public Footpath 50(0) which is between 46 & 48 Holmwood Ave and turn left at the back end of the garden of the houses and continue along that path instead, to the Open Space. We will update more in due course, when we have further information available from the Council/Whitgift Foundation.
